From September 24 to 26, Paestum hosted the second edition of the D³4Health Summer School, which brought together 28 participants—including researchers, clinicians, engineers, technology experts, and students—along with faculty members from universities, research institutions, and companies.
The program followed a single overarching theme: from the patient to the data, from the data to the model, and from the model back to the patient. The first day focused on data quality and governance, ranging from radiomics to cloud infrastructure to compliance. The second day addressed the technologies that transform data into knowledge, including MLOps, explainability, wearables, and omics and imaging biomarkers. The third day brought these technologies back to the patient, covering tissue engineering, organoids, bioprinting, and the assessment of real-world clinical impact.
Alongside the workshops, the Hackathon ran throughout the entire Summer School. Five multidisciplinary teams—Sasà UMG, Med-AItors, SPHERE³4, Oncoria, and AVGGG— took what they had learned and turned it into concrete project proposals, which they presented during the final pitch session to the evaluation committee, mentors, and other participants. The teams Oncoria and Sasà UMG were awarded the two prize grants of 5,000 euros each.
The evening activities—including a visit to the archaeological site of Paestum and group dinners—rounded out the experience, providing opportunities for informal interaction and for exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
