Spoke 4

Spoke 4 aims to provide additional biological and patient-derived information and input to explore alternative scenarios

Biological and Bioengineered In Vitro Models for Care Using Digital Twin Approaches

The expected results of Spoke 4, in synergy with the previous complementary Spokes, will then meet the NRPP’s goal of strengthening the foundation for appropriate preclinical and clinical trial phases, enabling patients to be stratified by matching them with new, better-tailored, and more targeted therapeutic protocols to improve complex clinical management.

The development of new in vitro models (Biological Twins) for groups of patients suffering from specific diseases (three different types of cancer, degenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes) is the core focus of Spoke 4 and aligns perfectly with the NRPP’s vision of developing “technology-driven” innovative diagnostics and therapies in precision medicine.

In fact, in addition to providing an initial validation of the newly generated models (Digital Twin) developed in Spoke 2, Spoke 4 aims to provide further biological and patient-derived information and input to explore alternative scenarios (i.e., new treatment options) or to better tailor digital models, with the ultimate goal of delivering a truly enabling technological platform for the healthcare system that provides clinical decision support and drives improvements in diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation.
